Atopic Dermatitis (Atopic Eczema)

Treating excessively dry skin.

The terms eczema or dermatitis are used to describe certain kinds of inflamed skin conditions including allergic contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, photoallergic dermatitis and stasis dermatitis.

Eczema can be red, blistering, oozing, scaly, brownish, or thickened skin and it usually itches. A special type is called atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema.

People with atopic dermatitis tend to have excessively dry skin. It is a genetic (inherited) skin condition. While atopic dermatitis cannot be cured, most cases can be controlled with proper treatment. The goals of treatment are to hydrate the skin, reduce inflammation, decrease the risk of infection, and alleviate the itchy rash.
